Getting a new home
Before you rent or buy a new home a few things could easily lead into a disaster. Check the following list before you move to a new home:
Fundamental decisions:
-Where and how do you want to live?
-Do you want a house or an apartment?
-Will you move all your furnitures and equipment or buy everything new in Shanghai?
-How about your current hometown- will you give up the house/ apartment?

Housing:
-If possible plan to visit Shanghai to gain a first impression
-Check the apartments- decide which type of housing you prefer
-Visit some locations you consider to live in
-Should you have already had contact with a real estate agent visit some apartments to gain an impression what living in Shanghai means
Local communities:
-Visit some social communities if you want to meet new people (Links click here)
-If you have children, check some schools (schools may be closed during July, August)
-Look around for free time activities; tennis courts, jogging parks, gym, swimming pool
During a visit:
-Heating and cooling possibilities
-Quality of windows and doors
-Equipment of kitchen and baths (heating oven/ microwave/ washing machine)
-Floor quality and cleaning efficiency
-Division of the rooms
-Possible services (e.g. cleaning lady/ nanny/ security guard)
-Facilities around the area (food markets/ subway and bus stations/ restaurants/ parks/ accessibility)
-School bus for pupils
-Neighborhood, check who will be your neighbor
